  1. The leaders that are talking about halloween 4 hunger, i think are giving alot of great ideas like:
When we would go collect the canned goods from the class rooms we could go dressed up in mini coustumes, and when we enter we could say "trick or treat" or sing the gingle Sarah wrote.
I alo thought the idea of handing out letters to your neighbours that give info about halloween 4 hunger and that ask if you could hand out canned goods too on halloween night.
I think yesterday we got lots of things done and people gave out many great ideas too.

  5. I am really excited for Halloween for Hunger and I think it would be a big sucess! I really love the idea about giving letters about Halloween for Hunger for people on our street so when we go trick or treating we can go to the houses that we gave the letters to and hopefully they would give canned goods. With this idea, we would really get closer to making hunger dissapear!! CLARA:)

  6. At last night BE THE CHANGE meeting, I really loved how everyone was sharing their ideas and
co operating. We each told each other about our ideas of how we are going to get the whole school talking about Halloween for Hunger and how it's going to look like. I hope that we would keep this up because we would have a lot accomplished throughout the school year!! CLARA:)

  7. Today when I was walking home I noticed that some houses says no flyers our junk mail aloud. I think that if we are giving out flyers we should not give the flyers to those houses because they might not read it and recycle the piece of paper. I agree with all of you that our Me to we group will accomplish many things. I think our Idea about Halloween for hunger and our food drive will surely start making hunger disappear. Even our other actives will start to raise the awareness. I think we all believe that this year we can prove to the teachers each and every year the Me to we community can get better and better!

  10. Today the leader ship group had a discussion about Halloween for hunger. We decided to hand out flyers but today while I was walking home I noticed that some houses said no flyers or junk mail. Even thought our flyer is not junk mail people still may not read it and put it in the recycle. I think we should not hand it out to those houses, so we can just print out one less copy and don’t waste paper. Even if we hand out the flyers, I don’t think our parents would want to carry both our candies and our can goods. What if we handed out all the flyers about our program? Than on Halloween night we find a community for e.g. from Bathurst to Dufferin. Than we spit up to groups with a parent that drives because than we can put our goods in the car. After we can pick a time to meet at a friend’s house together than we can go down to Union station together because we did all the work.
    This is just an idea.

  11. I been wondering when the committee group and the leadership group are going to start meetings on Thursdays during lunch, because to my opinion I think the two of the Be The Change groups might need more work on the discussions we are making to try to accomplish more work.Aretha

  12. I think that eradicate extreme poverty and hunger is the most important millenium development goal because children can't work on an empty stomach, they NEED food to work and SURVIVE. Also, when they are really hungry, they will get extremely sick because they wouldn't have any energy and then they'll faint becuase they would have to work so we have to find a way to help them get food to survive. 14. I think that the most important millenium goal to me is education because if you get a good education you get a paying job which means your family has clean water and food to live on.
I found a website about events, campaigns and facts about how many people use food banks daily.

  16. i think one idea that spoke out to me was that we should only hand out flyers to the street we are going to be coolecting on so we do not waste paper sarah

    ReplyDelete
  17. That was a good idea Sabrina, but I sort of dissagree with you because if we are collecting cans on our street, when the box becomes full, couldnt we just drop it at our house because we are just collecting cans from our neighbours. CLARA:)

  19. Hey guys, this is just a rough copy of how I think the letter about Halloween for Hunger should look like. If you have any ideas, post it and then I can add to it. After, I'll print it and bring it to school to ask you guys what you think of it. BTW, got all the info from freethechildren.com and halloweenforhunger.com CLARA :)

Hi! This year at McMurrich Junior Public School, we will be participating in an event called Halloween for Hunger. This event will give young children, like us a chance to help stop hunger.

On Halloween night, we will be going around asking families if they can donate 1 or more canned goods for children who are very hungry.

We decided to participate in Halloween for Hunger this year because we learned a lot about other children that don’t have as much food as we do, so we wanted to help stop hunger and spread the word to donate 1 can or more.

The donation that we would hope you will make will support local food banks and people in our community who are hungry. Poverty and hunger are challenges that effect many people in North America who are mostly children.

Last year, 408 schools participated in Halloween for Hunger and donated around 217 713 pounds of canned foods each. That was an outstanding number of cans! That could have been fed to 2 221 families for 1 week or 555 families for 1 month! This year, our school hoped that we would raise more cans so we can make hunger disappear!

    Thank you for reading!

    From,

The Be The Change Student Committee

Also, there are 15% more visits this year than last year at local food banks. 15% of kids and 37% of adults go hungry each week. For more info go to www.dailybread.ca

  22. Emily, education is important but if you don't have food or water you can't have engry to go to school and learn. Also a person can not survive longer than seven with out water. So I think haveing water and food is the most important millenium goal.

  26. Today in Me to We, my group started on our poster for Halloween for hunger. At first we had a little problem on how to start our idea by soon after we figured out that if we got up with this idea where we should draw a picture where some people are going to collect can goods and on the way they meet some very hungry children. I also think that today in groups we accomplished many things that needed to be done. I think if we are like this at every meeting we can get all our goals accomplished.

  35. I totally agree with you Aretha.I think that it is really important to check out the guy in the box becuase than you can see how many people believe that they can make hunger dissapear by bringing in non parishable food items. CLARA :)

  36. Thank you Clara for reading my comment I really appreciate it .This comment is for the whole Be The Change Committee I was looking up on the news and I saw the guy in the box there are so many non-perishable food cans !...And the guy said that it is such a great experience just being in a box surrounded by plenty of food cans.Hey Clara I have a question ;You know the guy in the box is eating or is he being one of those people suffering for food for all those days and nights. That is so cool!.. And sorry Clara that I didn`t put a question mark after my question .the reason why I didn`t is because my question mark on the keyboard is not working!..Aretha =o)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey Aretha. I am not sure if he was eating or suffering for food for 5 days. Sorry, I just went by to check it out but I think it would be pretty cool for him to not have food for 5 days becuase it would show us right in front of our eyes how a person lives without a meal. Anyways, I just know that there were A LOT of non perishable food items and that he was really happy that everyone was donating a can of food and there was a long line up of people holding their cans. Also, there was one guy building the box and adding cans to it. CLARA:)

P.S Thanks Aretha for reading my comment and commenting back to it

  38. Sorry Clara that I didn't get to comment you back sooner ,but thanks for letting me know about the guy in the box .Guess what I don't know if know whats happening in the Caribbean ; they had a Hurricane,so my family and I are going to pack a big barrel .If you don't know what a barrel is ,it is a kind of a huge bucket .My family and I are going to put any food items and clothing for people who needs it .Those people are suffering and they really need help, but were only sending a barrel for St.Vincent for now because part of my family is living there .
