I hope that we can pull this intiative off by next week but at the pace we are going, I think we can so GREAT JOB EVERYONE AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! :D CLARA
Bailey-Hi I’m Bailey I have just finished a days work at the Carpet factory where I was forced to work in a hot, dusty work room . I sat for 12 hours at a carpet loom to create a carpet for my master.
Tiffany- Hi I am Tiffany I know someone named Bailey who is a slave of child labor.
Aretha- I have freedom and rights just like Tiffany, why doesn’t Bailey …. he is a child just like me. However he has to work and is not able to go to school. This is not fair because we are all the same and deserve a chance to be heard and go to school.
Sabrina- As an annual Free the Children event we as a McMurrich community will be participating in the Vow of Silence for all the children that don’t have a voice or freedoms like we do.
Emily- Did you know that twenty two thousand children a year die from child labor.
Aretha- Did you know that many children around the world from the age of five to fifteen are in child labor.
Tiffany- Here is a video clip taking about the importance of participating in the vow of silence.
Aretha-Grade 1-3: We are all children of the world and we should all have the same freedoms. We should NEVER treat each other differently because of our color, shape, size or beliefs.
The primary students will be participating in the Vow of Silence for half a day. This means no communicating, such as, talking in and out of class using the computer or talking on the phone.
Bailey Grade 4-6: We are all children of the world and we should all have the same freedoms. We should NEVER treat each other differently because of our color, shape, size or beliefs.
The junior students will participate in the Vow of Silence for the whole day or even 24 hours if you choose to. This means no communicating, such as texting, social network and/or calling.
Sabrina- The BTC Leadership Committee will be sending home a letter today to inform the McMurrich Community about the students participating in the Vow of Silence.
Emily- If you would like to make a donation we will be selling pieces of tape with a message of why you are participating in the vow of silence. Each piece of tape will be loonie and we will be coming by tomorrow in the morning to sell you the tape so that you are prepared for the Vow of Silence on Wednesday.
Sabrina: Here is what you will receive when you donate a loonie- a pamphlet thanking you for participating and a piece of tape which you will wear on your shirt Wednesday.
BTC- each will share a message why they are going silent Sabrina: Why will you be silent???? Let us join together to represent children just like us and show them that we are thinking of them.
I would like to congratulate all those involved in writing the letter to the parents, pamphlet and scripting the presentation. The presentation today was clear, simple and powerful. Students definitely are talking about what it means to make a vow and what it means to be silent.
We will meet after morning attendance to organize visits to the classrooms.
Please remember to wear your BTC tshrits on Wednesday!
hey guys katie and I just finished collecting donations for the tape and we got about $50. I think that we did good considering many forgot. many students forgot and said that they were going to bring it tomorrow but I don't know if they can or if we will be able to let them.
I would like to congrulate everyone for completing the Vow of Silence! First of all, when I said that I was going to do the Vow of Silence for 24 hours, it seemed really easy to me but then when the Vow of Silence actually came, it was harder then I thought but I still did it. I wonder how all the children in child labour can put up with it??? CLARA :D
